Our Youth Group
When you take the chance of going to a new group for the first time, it can be a little scary. Let’s be honest. No one really like trying things out for the first time, but the bottomline is– you will either like it or you won’t. Fifty-fifty odds. So why not give it a chance? At worst, you will lose and hour and a half of your life, but at best, you will find a group of cool people with interesting things to do on a Wednesday night! But before you check out our group, you would know the kinds of things we do!
What to Expect
So, to narrow the odds in your favor a bit more, let us tell you what you can expect. Here is how our group usually runs.
- Question of the Day: We usually start out with a question of the day. Our question is usually something funny or silly, like…”if you had a million dollars– how would you choose to spend it?” Everyone gets a chance to talk and we all listen.
- Main Topic: This can really vary. Sometimes the main point of our group is to have a party. We like to celebrate the start of a new year, Halloween, Thanksgiving (you get the idea). At other times, our main topic might be a service project like painting a room, helming the elderly or boxing food for starting children. Sometimes our main topic is the discussion. We choose the discussions that we want to have. They can range from being topical (something in the news), to discussing a movie or subject. At times we attend or participate in a church service.
- Check In: This is a chance for you to tell the group the stuff you want to about your week. People share bits of their lives. We usually tell about the highs and lows of the week.
- Closing: Our closing is led by one of us and is a chance to be thoughtful and contemplative or to pray. In a world where snapchat is constantly being updated and we have to follow all of our friends tweets, it can be difficult to find some quiet time to think. In our closings we light a candle and sit in a circle and have a short meditation or prayer. We have had youth group members from different religions and everyone is always welcome. Our group is respectful of everyone’s beliefs.
