Abundant Surprising Grace by Rev. Brandon Ashcraft, January 20th, 2019

January 20, 2019 by Jim wheeler

Saving the good wine until last seemed a preposterous notion on that day in Cana of Galilee more than 2000 years ago. Absolutely no one was expecting it. But on that day, saving the good wine until last became a manifestation of God’s grace that gave new and abundant life to a community on the cusp of crisis. So we keep our eyes open, looking for signs of God’s grace, trusting that it will indeed come, and that when it does, it will – more than likely – surprise us.

Abundant Surprising Grace by Rev. Brandon Ashcraft, a transitional deacon completing a hospital chaplaincy residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, returning for a visit to Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, delivered the sermon on this Second Sunday After Epiphany, January 20, 2019.

For 132 years, Saint Mary’s has been a Christ-centered community with a mission to express God’s love for all people. Saint Mary’s is can be found on the corner of Laurel and Howell in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with three regular service times:  7:45 AM without music, 9:00 AM contemporary liturgy and music, and 11:00 AM traditional Rite II. The sermon “Pregnant With Uncertainty” provides insight into the back story behind Advent, as she describes “it is not simple waiting.
