Godly Play

9:50 – 10:30am Sundays – Godly Play

If your children are attending the 9am service, after they receive Eucharist they are invited to meet MiaLisa at the door (front, right) and she will lead them to the Godly Play Atriums.  If you are planning to attend the 10:30 service, you may bring your IMG_9589children directly to the Sunday School rooms at 9:45.

One goal of all of our Sunday School classes is to create a safe place where young people feel welcomed, valued, and a contributing part of a Christian community.

A goal of the Godly Play program is to tell the stories of scripture in a particular way that is intriguing to children, and encourages their imagination and independent thinking.  We want them to know the foundational stories of our faith because we believe there is truth in them about the love of God that will help them live out their Baptismal Covenant.

Another more subtle goal is to teach a rhythm that children will recognize in worship.  They enter the atrium space calmly and gather in a circle around the adult storyteller.  Each child is greeted by name.  A candle is lit.  A story from scripture unfolds.  Each child has an opportunity to internalize that story, or a story from a previous day, through art or play.  They gather back into the circle for a feast (usually crackers and juice) that mirrors the Eucharistic feast.

They say a prayer together, receive a blessing from the teacher, and are dismissed at 9:50.  For more information on godly play go towww.livingthegoodnews.com

Our classrooms are located on the second floor, down the hallway.  Parents are welcome to sit in on the classes if that makes their child more comfortable.
