What’s New?

  • To listen to the homily given by Nina Johnson on Sunday, October 17, Click HERE.
  • Next Sunday, Oct 31st, is Halloween. Two things to note:
    • This will be a ZOOM ONLY Gospel Based Discipleship service—no in-person service.
    • Kids & adults: Wear your costumes!!
  • Do you have any marigolds growing in pots or in your garden? St Mary’s will have a need for LOTS of marigolds for the worship service on Sunday, November 7, which is All Saints Day. We’ll be learning about Day of the Dead and how to honor our dead at home by creating an ofrenda or home altar. Marigolds are important to this remembrance. Marigolds can be brought to St. Mary’s that Sunday morning and taken home after the service.
  • And more about All Saints Day, November 7th:
    • There will be a special prayer naming and remembering those who have died in the last year. On Sunday, October 24: If you worship virtually, please put names in the chat; if you worship in person, please put the names in the offering plate at the back of the sanctuary; or send an email to susan@saintmarysepiscopal.org by Tuesday, November 2.
    • Remember tying ribbons on our trellis in memory of those who have died? We’ll be doing that again this year on November 7th . If you worship virtually, you’ll be invited to put names in the chat during the prelude and someone will tie a ribbon to the trellis in memory of those persons; if you worship in person, you’ll be invited to tie ribbons to the trellis.
    • It’s common on All Saints Day to have baptisms and renewal of Baptismal vows. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact The Rev. Susan Moss at susan@saintmarysepiscopal.org.

Feedback is welcome!
Expect changes as we try things, see how they work and make improvements! Your feedback is more important than ever before to help us know what’s working well and what isn’t. Please send your thoughts, ideas, suggestions to the Worship Team.

A Message from our Warden

Dear St. Mary’s community,

I want to share some news from the vestry related to our search for a new rector. We heard from members of St. Mary’s during our listening sessions that after 3 years of changing priests, people yearn for the stability and deeper relationships that come from a permanent rector. The vestry has been talking about ways to increase our chances of success in a future call for a rector. One option would be to post a full-time position, rather than a ¾ time position that we advertised in our previous calls.

A ¾ time position would require us to use some of our reserves to cover the priest’s salary and benefits A full-time position would put an even bigger draw on our reserves. However, the vestry believes this is the time to make a major investment in St Mary’s future.   We also believe it is important to demonstrate financial support from all members of  the congregation.  Pledged income is needed to support a full time call so we do not exhaust our financial reserves.

That is where our annual stewardship campaign comes in. Next week you will receive more information from Cindy James and Jim Wheeler, co chairs of the 2022 stewardship campaign asking you to make a pledge toward our future. I ask that you prayerfully consider how your pledge will enable the support of a full-time rector.

This is a crucial time in St. Mary’s history. Those who have been at St. Mary’s for a while know there have been difficult times in the past, and the commitment of the congregation has pulled us through to better times. This is our time to do something similar.

I am excited about the potential of calling a full time rector, and I hope you are, too. The vestry and I feel this is our moment to move toward a new beginning for St. Mary’s. When we make our 2022 pledges, let’s be as generous as we can to show our support.  It is going to take all of us making a commitment to making this happen.  The vestry and I look forward to traveling this path together with you.

If you have questions or concerns about this, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Also don’t forget to pray for discernment and guidance of the Spirit as we all navigate this season!

Faithful Belonging: Now and in the Future –  Stewardship 2022

Pledge Goal:  $190,000 – please have all pledges completed by November 14th.

Stewardship thought from Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer – “Good Communities don’t make themselves,” my dad said. “We’ve got a lot to be grateful for, and we all have to do our part to keep it going.”

Click HERE for a Stewardship moment from parishioner Catherine Neuschler.

We have a couple of ways that you can make your pledge:

  • Paper pledge cards are available again this year.  If you would like a paper pledge card, please contact Cindy James at james.c.a@comcast.net or at 651-261-4884.
  • Online pledge by accessing our stewardship page by clicking this link. Click HERE

We have several ways you can pay your pledge:

  • By check made out to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church
  • Electronic Funds transfer from your bank. Contact our treasurer, Rex Holzemer (rexaholzemer@gmail.com) for details on how this works.
  • Click the CONTRIBUTE tab at the top of our website (Click HERE) and select “Give Now Online” from the menu to set up a Vanco account to put your pledge on a credit card or have it withdrawn from your bank account. Note: If you choose this option, please check the processing fee box (2.75% for credit cards and 1% for bank accounts) to help cover the processing fee.  This fee will be included in your pledge statement at the end of the year, so you get the tax credit and St. Mary’s won’t have to pay the processing fee.

Not sure how much you are currently pledging?  No problem: simply contact our pledge clerk (Enzo DeLuca) at pledgeclerk@saintmarysepiscopal.org and he will give you the information regarding your current pledge.

Thank you for your contribution and your support.

Cindy James and Jim Wheeler
