Worship Team

Hey!  Where’s “What’s New?”

The “What’s New?” section was started when things changed frequently, when we had a different style of service each Sunday… sometimes it was Eucharist, sometimes adapted Morning Prayer, sometimes even a Zoom only Gospel Based Discipleship. Because of the constant changes, it was important to keep parishioners abreast of what worship would look like week to week. Now that we have a consistent priest and will have Eucharist every week, things won’t change weekly.

Also, the Worship Team probably won’t meet until sometime in August so there will be nothing new on that front.

If there are changes in worship that the St Mary’s community needs to know about, you can be certain that you’ll find that information here in the Weekly Email.

Feedback is welcome!

Still thinking about giving the Worship Team input about your yearnings/longings around worship at St. Mary’s? It’s never too late to let us know what you’re thinking about.   Click HERE to give feedback. Thanks!

An update on St. Mary’s KIVA loan to Tejedoras De Sajputa Group in Guatemala–Making a Difference in the World

In a rural area of the state of Quiche, the women carefully protect their methods of weaving. Margarita, 26, says that her community’s woven fabrics are their cultural heritage because the methods come from her ancestors. That is why the fabrics and embroideries of the traditional blouses that Margarita weaves and embroiders are unique in her community. She explains that each artisan woman uses her own creativity to give life, style and color to the traditional shirts. She has been running this business for more than four years. Through her ability to weave and embroider traditional blouses, Margarita generates her own income. She continues to capitalize on her business to meet consumer demand. That is why Margarita took out her first loan with Kiva in July 2021. With this financing, she was able to purchase yarn in various colors in bulk. As a result of her efforts, Margarita can send her only child, a nine-year-old daughter, to school.

Margarita is a member of the Communal Bank “Tejedoras De Sajputa” (Weavers of Sajputa). She and six other women in the group communicate in their first language – the Mayan Ixil language. Only with difficulty do they communicate in Spanish. These women are grateful to Kiva and Friendship Bridge lenders for financing their textile businesses. Margarita and her companions also received medical attention from a nurse at the institution. Each of them underwent Pap tests, glucose checks, and height and weight checks. During the loan cycle, they also received monthly educational training through games, drawings, riddles and puzzles. Via these learning strategies, the women are learning about health, nutrition, women’s rights, family planning, budgeting, investing and saving.

There are now more than 32,000 clients who are benefiting from Friendship Bridge’s “Microcredit Plus” program. Thank you Kiva!
