Saint Mary’s Weekly – January 13, 2023

January 12, 2023 by communications

The Second Sunday after the Epiphany

January 15, 2023

Welcome The Rev. Chris Boehm Carlson Sunday

This week Rev. Chris Boehm Carlson will be our supply priest as Rev. Lindsey is taking a day off. She attended St. Mary’s installation service and is happy to serve St. Mary’s this Sunday.

Rev. Chris serves as priest associate at Messiah Episcopal Church here in St. Paul. Rev. Chris graduated from Oberlin college with a major in geology. She had a 20 year professional career in environmental consulting before following a call to ordained ministry. She received her Master of Divinity degree from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA and was ordained to the priesthood in June 2020. She served on staff at St. Luke’s in Minneapolis as the Healing Ministry coordinator prior to seminary. Rev. Chris lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two children and enjoys her numerous pets, camping, being outdoors, cooking, and reading.

All Minnesota Episcopalians are invited to join PercoLAYte. Running through June, 2023, we’ll meet monthly to “steep” ourselves in the lay order of ministry, one of the four orders of ministry of the Episcopal Church, to which every baptized or received Episcopalian belongs. Each month, we’ll explore a new aspect of what the prayer book and our baptismal vows call us to and what that ministry looks like in our faith communities and in our daily lives.

Bishop Loya has frequently said that he imagines the church in ten years to be largely “lay-led, clergy-supported.” In order to prepare ourselves for that future, and to deepen your own ministry and discipleship, we encourage you to join PercoLAYte gatherings as you are able.

We know that weekdays at noon don’t work for everyone, so we’ll also be recording these sessions and posting them on the ECMN Discipleship page.

  • Thursday, December 8, 12pm: Exploring Centered and the Impact of Small Groups.
At Convention, Bishop Loya invited every Episcopalian to participate in lay-led small groups this coming year. This conversation will give you the basics you need to get started.
  • Thursday, January 12, 12pm: Four Orders of Ministry: The Laity
  • Thursday, February 9, 12pm
  • Thursday, March 9, 12pm
  • Thursday, April 13, 12pm
  • Thursday, May 11, 12pm
  • Thursday, June 8, 12pm

Ronald McDonald House

Hi my name is Miles Mann, I am the godson of Paulette Briese.

I am doing a Scout project to benefit the Minneapolis Ronald McDonald House which provides housing for families when they have sick children.

We will be collecting items to help fill the pantry. There will be a donation collection box (with lists of the most needed items) at St Mary’s for the Month of January.

This project is for Summit Rank which is part of a rank advancement in Venture Scouts, which is comparable to Eagle rank. I appreciate any help the members of St. Mary’s are willing to do to make this project a success.

Thanks,
Miles Mann
