Liturgy Matters at St. Mary’s by The Reverend Susan M. Moss
Blair is a truly extraordinary priest, and one I believe is uniquely qualified [to be ECMN’s new Canon for Vitality and Innovation.] For the past sixteen years, she has served as Rector of St. Matthew’s in St. Paul, which has experienced remarkable spiritual revival and renewal during her tenure. Her time at St. Matthew’s clearly demonstrates that she knows how to nurture congregational vitality and has the courage and creativity to lead a faith community in the ever-changing landscape around us. She previously served congregations in both rural and suburban contexts, and that background makes her a very good fit for our diverse diocese. She has written extensively in the areas of vitality and innovation during her ministry, has served as a coach in the Missional Leadership Cohort for Episcopal clergy at Luther seminary, and is widely recognized and consulted as a leader in the areas of vitality and innovation all over our church and ecumenically. Most importantly, she brings a deep and daily commitment to abiding in the person of Jesus, and a passion for reaching those outside the church’s walls.
In accepting this call, Blair said: “I look forward to helping lay and ordained leaders in ECMN live more deeply into a network of shared learning and experimentation. My focus will be on deep listening, raising up and training regional leaders, facilitators, and coaches, and supporting grassroots networks so they can function as learning communities. I’m also excited about sharing spiritual practices to help people connect more deeply with God and their neighbors.”

St. Mary’s support for KIVA continues
In 2021, loans made by St. Mary’s throughout the world through KIVA totaled $3550, plus $215 to support the services provided to the people by the KIVA organization. As KIVA receives loan repayments, these dollars go into St. Mary’s KIVA account. When that account reaches approximately $1000, new loans are made by St. Marians to other people looking to start or expand a business or wanting to make improvements to make their living environment healthier (i.e., toilets). If you’d like more information, contact Paulette Briese or Julie Thomas.
Help our new rector get to know us!
Let Paulette Briese know if you’d like a new name badge. Info needed: First & Last name; pronouns you prefer; Lanyard, pin or clip style; and if you want a rainbow pin on your name badge. paulettegb at comcast.net.
Would you like to bring a smile to someone’s face? Brighten their day? This opportunity may be for you! The Worship Team is looking for a couple people who would like to bring an Easter plant to some of the St. Mary’s parishioners. For some people, it might simply be delivering a plant and having a little visit. For others, it might also include taking communion to them. Susan would provide training for anyone who would like to do this. Don’t be shy!! If you’d like to deliver plants, let me (paulettegb at comcast.net ) or Susan know! If you’d like to take communion to someone, same story! Let Paulette or Susan know.
My name is Rainy Morgan, and I want to remind everyone that March was usually considered the month for annual food drives. In the past St. Mary’s Outreach had a relationship with the Interfaith Action of Greater St. Paul (IAGSP, or ‘IA/Interfaith Action’) with their local food shelf, however, they have now moved to Little Canada. Their business office remains local, on Grand Avenue. Because they recently moved and are getting re-organized, they did not do a big March promotion, but donations can still be made online or by sending in checks. (See addresses below) Interfaith action specializes in programming with the department of Indian Work. If donating online, please donate under that program. Today there are multiple agencies both local, national, and international, to raise funds for food donations. For those of us that are able, it’s easy to go online to donate any time of year. So please remember to support your favorite food shelf if possible! Rainy Morgan, morgan55106 at yahoo.com
