On June 14th, Guled Omar had his appeal in St Paul with the 8th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. Hundreds came to support him and his family, including people from St Mary’s, Minnehaha United Methodist, Faith Mennonite and Solomon’s Porch. Unfortunately, he lost the appeal. This means he will not be out of federal prison until he is in his 50’s, and there is no opportunities for early release. He and his family, friends and fiance are devastated but taking comfort in his faith, family, friends, church support and restorative justice efforts. Thanks to the support from St Mary’s, Guled has started college classes with Ohio University, taking English and Psychology, and really enjoying them. On September 27th, the Palombo family will be driving the Omar family (including Baby Guled!) down to Leavenworth prison to visit Guled, as his family has not seen him in over a year. The trip costs $400 for a van rental, so if you would like to help pay for the trip, please contact Matthew Palombo at matthew.palombo@gmail.com or 6122125206. Visiting Guled is the most important thing right now for him and his family. Please keep them in your prayers and look forward to another opportunity to engage with the family.
