St. Mary’s choir for grade-school aged people is called Choristers. Singers learn healthy, musical singing technique, unsion and simple part singing, and to be part of an ensemble. Highlights include participating in Lessons and Carols in December, the spring children’s musical, and singing for both the 9:00 and 10:30 services several times during the program year. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6 – 6:45pm.
This year, Choristers will be busy busy busy with several special events. This choir for young singers is heard during the year at both 9 and 10:30 Sunday services, but this autumn, they will be in many different places!
October will bring the musical “Elijah,” presented at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church. Singers from St John’s joined us last year for the first time, and so this year we will be presenting another show on their campus.
November means the opportunity to be part of our greater state-wide church presence, taking part in the diocesan Youth Music Festival. Singers will be preparing music during regular Wednesday evening rehearsals which take place from 6-6:45pm on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 14th. St. Mary’s singers going to the event will join other young Episcopalians from around our state at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Minneapolis. A whole day of activities (musical Jeopardy anyone?) rehearsals and a cathedral tour will take place. Singers will arrive at 10:15am and spend the day at the Cathedral. Lunch is provided. A festival service for the Eve of All Saints will be presented at 4pm and the day will wind up around 5pm. Mark your calendars!
December brings our beloved service of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 18th. For many who spend Christmas elsewhere, this is an early opportunity to celebrate with our St Mary’s community. This musical service, joins beautiful readings, carols simple and exquisite, with rich choral and instrumental music for the season. A sumptuous dinner in the church undercroft follows.
