This 7-week class looks at racism in our criminal justice system using the book, The New Jim Crow, as a springboard for an intense and timely lecture-plus-discussion. This class component is led by Troy Wilson, Outreach Pastor at Central Baptist Church, and an African American man with deep personal experience of the material. The class also includes spiritual exercises that awaken participants to unconscious biases and stereotypes and that create heart-centered capacity for compassionate conversations that challenge racism. This spiritual formation component is led by Jennifer Pedalty, Spiritual Director, and member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Together, Troy and Jennifer create a safe and sacred space for each person to explore this timely and important topic in a personal way.
