Youth Group meets every Wednesday in the youth room (on the second floor, end of the hallway) 6-6:30 hanging out 6:30-8pm program This is a casual but structured gathering in which the youth share reflections on what's going on in their lives and in our communities, and where the two meet. Organized around themes, a typical month includes a service project in the community, guest speakers, some silly fun, and weekly meditative prayer. This group is led by Joe Juvland, Sarah Ann Weaver, and MiaLisa McFarland Usually around 20 young people attend. Summer Mission Trip Goin’ South During the summer of ’07 we took an awesome service trip. We began in New Orleans, working hard in the sun doing Katrina clean-up work with the Episcopal Church for one week. We then drove to Montgomery Alabama, where we learned a lot about the civil rights movement, drove the Selma-Montgomery highway, walked across the Edmond Pettus Bridge, toured the Civil Rights museum. and of course, ate ribs. For photos from that trip, go here. Sunday Morning Ministries Youth at St. Mary’s serve as ushers, greeters, readers, chalice bearers, and acolytes. We also help create the annual Epiphany Festival of Lights, and lead other special services throughout the year. Plus we take our turns at shoveling snow and mowing the lawn. Justice Ministries Our youth group has rung Christmas bells for the salvation army, participated in the St Paul Area Council of Churches Teen Service Day, and attended the Millennium Development Goals event. Souper Bowl of Caring Every year, in memory of former St Mary’s youth minister Dick Mayer, our youth group participates in the national Souper Bowl of Caring. On Super Bowl Sunday we solicit donations for the food shelf. This year we broke our record, raising over $700! Annual Ski Trip to Ironwood Michigan This year 28 people were able to attend this ski-fest over Martin Luther King Day weekend in January. Fun fun! For a photo album of ski trips, click here.
