One goal of all of our Sunday School classes is to

create a safe place where
young people feel

welcomed, valued, and a contributing part of a

Christian community.

A goal of the Godly Play program is to tell the stories from scripture in a particular way that is intriguing to children, and encourages their imagination and independent thinking. We want them to know the foundational stories of our faith because we believe there is truth in them about the love of God that will help them live out their

Another more subtle goal is to teach a rhythm that they will recognize in our worship service. They to enter the classroom space calmly and gather in a circle around the adult storyteller. Each child is greeted by name, and they are praised for ways they have shared of their time, talent, or treasure the previous week. A candle is lit. A story from scripture unfolds. Each child has an opportunity to internalize that story, or a story from a previous day, through art or play. They gather back into the circle for a feast (usually crackers and juice).

They say a prayer together, receive a

blessing from the teacher,

and are dismissed at 9:50.
