Our mission and values

St. Mary's is a Christ-centered community with a mission to serve God in all people

-Mission Statement

St. Mary's began ministry in 1886, and has been worshiping in this church building since the mid-1920's. Throughout the years here a common thread would be our love and commitment to outreach and social justice, the arts, and to loving one another. Here you will find a diversity of beliefs, life situations, theology, and politics. In the midst of all of the diversity we are bound together by a desire to live grounded in the compassion of Christ and make a real difference in the world.

As Christians we believe that the Gospel is first and foremost Good News, that God created humanity and declared us "good." We believe that Jesus Christ came to teach humanity a compassionate, self-sacrificial way of living that honors all people. And we believe that the breath of God-the Holy Spirit-binds us together in relationship and constantly pushes us to new things.

As Episcopalians our goal is not to have conformity of belief, but rather to come together out of diversity of belief and still dine at the same Eucharistic table. We do not leave our intellects at the door. Rather, critical thinking is encouraged, leaning on the three-legged stool of scripture, tradition, and our own reason/experience. In our church there will be no outcasts.

At St. Mary's you will find open-minded, unpretentious people who seek to draw closer to each other and to the heart of God. You will find single people and families of all kinds. You'll find a commitment to children's ministry, music, helping the poor and disenfranchised, and a welcoming, uplifting Sunday morning experience. Plus you'll find that we like to have a good time-there are lots of parties, and lots of laughter.

Welcome!
